Have any of you guys ever gone to regional events? What were they like?

I think I'm going to go to my first event in the three years I've been writing tomorrow. :)

I've been involved with regional events for seven out of the eight years I've been doing NaNo. My region (Alberta) is TOTALLY crazy about NaNo-- we get tons of people coming to the events and we have three MLs who all go completely insane trying to organize them. They're always a ton of fun.

Some of our events include the Kickoff Party, weekly (or more often) writeins at libraries, overnightwriteins writeins on the train, writeins at pubs, writeins in boxes with foxes wearing sockses, a midway party to take a break from all the writeins, and the TGIO party.

Not to mention the regional chatroom events, which I help to run.

We also do themes-- we started two years ago with a Harry Potter theme (all our wrimos were sorted into four houses, each named after a piece of punctuation), we had ninjas last year (wrimos sorted into four different clans, with a different 'weapon', aka writing instrument), and this year we're all at camp, and everyone's sorted into a cabin. I'm running the 'virtual' cabin, which is composed of people who have left Edmonton but still see the region as home, and hang out in the chatroom.

Basically: Events are a rockin' awesome time and you should go to many.

I'm just going to a weekly 3-hour writing session in a Starbucks. I figure it might be what I need to get some serious catching up done. :)

Yeah, they're definitely a good way to get things done!

Um, sorry for my tremendous tl;dr. I get very enthusiastic about events.

Hahaha no worries. It's good to know that people actually go to these things and enjoy them :D

They're a lot of fun! Especially in a region that is as big and enthusiastic as Edmonton.

Well, we're not as big as regions in more major cities like Toronto or New York, but we're kind of a byword for crazily enthusiastic among the MLs, apparently.
